Who we are?
We offer help to homeless people and families, but in a different way than usual. Instead of giving out food or providing a place to sleep, we are working to enable homeless people to fight efffectively to better their own lives, and find their way to getting a home of their own. Most aid organizations offer these people the bare minimum for survival, and few if any ways out of being homeless.
Turning fates is our business. We believe that everyone, you as well as any homeless person, has the inner ability to change. Our aim is to use individually tailored help and an injection of funds to enble a final exit from homelessness. We are responding to real needs, and supporting positive human stories so they can soar.
For the past 23 years we have helped over 300 people in this way.

Who do we help?
Our applicants include street homeless of all ages from elderly to teens, but most of our grantees are aged 20-40 and live in temporary homes with their children. Many are from disadvantaged smalltowns, and many were state orphans. Often their highest schooling is elementary level, and many have no formal training. We often work with fleeing abused mothers. One thing that all have in common is bravery to fight for a home of their own!
What does it take for someone to move on from being homeless?
We offer every applicant help in what they really need for moving on. We might help with studies, learning a trade, getting work tools, any kind of opportunity-creating investment, or processing a traumatized life. Applicants first create their own detailed plan for moving on, then we evaluate their application, and carefully consider whom we can start workiing with.
Our programme participants receive individually tailored support:
- studying, learning a trade, buying working tools
- cooperating closely with a social worker, boosting motivation and self-esteem
- help from our volunteer tutors, learning tools (eg. laptop)
- participation in self-help groups
There Is A Chance Foundation is small, but effective. It was started 20 years ago as a civil organization, as a grassroots initiative, operating from the dedicated expertise of its working members and supporters’ donations. We are proud to operate independantly from any state subsidies or grant money, based solidly on our community, and aiding the progress of 18-25 homeless people and families every year.
There is a way out of homelessness, but it needs you too!
Whenever a homeless person sees their personal story engaging strangers to stand by them and support them, it is an enormous mobilizing force for that person. Seeing others put faith in them gives back their own sense of self-worth.
How much does it cost to change someone’s life?
We invest about 500 thousand Forints (1300 Euros) in each individual plan, which covers studies, working tools and equipent, and professional support. Investment brings rapid results: school attendance, regular income, improvement in family relations, self esteem and wellbeing, finding a real home. It is profoundly mobilizing for a homeless person to experience strangers standing with them. When we believe in them, it helps them find faith in themselves!

We are seeking partners whose donations invest in a homeless person’s future. 500 thousand Forints (1300 Euros) can offer one person an opportunity for change, 5200 Euros helps 4 people move beyond homelessness.
Our participants commit to put in their best effort, and we commit to help and support them alongthe way to reaching their goal. With our partner businesses we can achieve the kind of teamwork that really does change the lives of actual people. The more people we help together, the more society can progress.
